Many thanks to all who made the latest quiz night a fantastic event.
There were 13 teams, all having a great time. The winning team, The King's Head Reserves, donated their prize money back to the PTA. A marvellous total of £440 was raised.
EASTER CHURCH ACTIVATES
There was a goodly turnout at all the Easter services in St Thomas's starting with Maundy Thursday, followed by the all night Vigil.
Good Friday morning service led into the Walk of Witness to St Peter's on the Wall.
In spite of the bitter cold, and the threat of snow, many people met at St Thomas's at 1pm - taking turns to carry the cross.
After the gate leading to the Chapel had been reached, there were 14 stops along the track to hear appropriate readings.
Arriving at the Chapel, the numbers had swelled to around 60. A wonderful service of meditation and readings, led by Rev Margaret and Rev Laurence Whitford took place after which Othona extended hospitality to these somewhat cold pilgrims, reviving them with tea and home-made hot cross buns!
Easter Sunday burst into joyous activity in a church beautifully decorated with flowers and a congregation enjoying the opportunity of shaking a collection of musical instruments at the cue given by Rev Laurence.
DECOMMISSIONING CUTBACKS
At a power station Local Community Liaison Council meeting on March 19, the members and the public were given an informative presentation about the "Dissolution Plant" which is being proposed for Bradwell.
This is judged to be the best method for disposing of the radioactive fins which were stripped from the used fuel rods during the active life of the power station and stored in vaults.
The process breaks down the magnesium alloy strips into a small amount of activated sludge (which would be stored at Bradwell) and the liquid residue which would be diluted, filtered, and discharged into the estuary at a rate well below the discharges experienced during the last 40 years whilst the power station was operating.
The Council also heard that decommissioning at Bradwell is now likely to take nearer to 100 years, instead of the 25/30 years announced by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority shortly after it was set up.
Among other options, the Bradwell staff have been asked to identify the minimum cost of putting the site into a "safe and secure state".
The public are welcome to attend a meeting of Bradwell Parish Council on Monday April 21, at 8pm in the committee room of the village hall, to hear Richard Mrowicki and Sean Moules of the NDA explain the reasons for these cutbacks.
LOCAL GUIDES
This coming July, members of Bradwell and Althorne Guides, will be packing their bags and setting off for the Essex Scout and Guide Jamboree 2008 at Kirby-le- Soten near Walton on the Naze.
Going to Jamboree is much more expensive than going to guide camp due to the cost of travel, and the vast range of activities/ amenities available on site.
The girls are looking to fund raise to contribute to this cost.
A date for diaries: April 26th at Althorne Church from 10amnoon, there will be an "All Sorts Sale" proceeds from which will be split between Jamboree, a Tall Ship Adventure, and a World Challenge being undertaken by 2 young leaders.
There will be a raffle, tombola, plant sales, games etc. This is your chance to enjoy a morning's activities and support and help these young people attain their goals.
BROWNIE SHOW
A delightful evening of entertainment was provided by the 1st Bradwell Juxta Mare Brownies last Wednesday evening in the village hall.
They had all worked extremely hard, and had a lot of fun rehearsing.
There were dancers, singers, acrobats and much more, performing to the music of High School Musical. The finale was two clowns who, after their extremely funny act, closed the show by throwing custard pies!
All the proceeds, from the show, raffle and refreshments, will go to the Guides for the Jamboree fund.
OTHONA RETREAT
Do you believe in Angels? There will be a chance to explore this intriguing concept from Tuesday April 22 to Thursday April 24 under the guidance of Bradwell Rectors Laurence and Margaret Whitford. To obtain details of this fascinating topic, and book your place, contact the Bradwell office on o1621-776564 or email bradwell@ othona.org

LONDON MARATHON
62-year-old Roy Webber is making his last run on Sunday April 13 at the London Marathon.
He has been training hard for many months and says he is up to schedule with this. As he has promised his wife Carol that it will be his last London Marathon he would like to make this year memorable by raising lots of money for his chosen charity, the Essex Air Ambulance.
There is still time to sponsor him either by telephoning direct on 776138, or by writing your name on the sponsor form which is on the bookstall just inside St Thomas's church.
