Ken Hughes was welcomed to Danbury URC last Sunday by Glyn Davies, who also welcomed Ken's wife Ruth to play the organ for our service.

Ken and Ruth come from our church at North Avenue in Chelmsford.

Glyn read two bible passages, the first from Psalm 46 which tells us that God stops wars all over the world, the second from Romans, which asks us to accept one another with joy and peace. This led into Ken's theme of mankind living together in peace and harmony.

He asked us if world unity is possible - is our world on the threshold of peace or the brink of disaster? Could the absence of friction or strife be described as peace?

The Bible contains God's promise that the world will be unified and that God's purpose from the very beginning was for mankind to live in peace and harmony.

Christ commanded that we should love our neighbours as he loved us.

Ken than asked us to sing the hymn with the words Put peace into each others hands and like a treasure hold it, protect it like a candle-flame, with tenderness enfold it.

It was announced that next Saturday, March 1, our minister, the Rev Jon Sermon is organising a day conference at the Church of Our Saviour in Chelmer Village entitled an Ignite Day, from 10am to 4pm, which will be led by the Rev Sally Willett.

Following the service we enjoyed refreshments prepared by Betty Blanks and Joan Willett.

Next Sunday, Mike Shelbourne will lead our service at 9.45am.
