A FIVE-PIECE band is preparing a two-hour show in tribute to a popular American singer-songwriter.

The Shades of Simon band will be presenting the theatre-style show in tribute to Paul Simon.

With a career spanning six decades, he was one half of the hugely popular Simon and Garfunkel.

The performance will include early Simon and Garfunkel 60s hits which have endured the test of time, such as The Sound of Silence, Mrs Robinson and Bridge Over Troubled Water.

This will be followed by a selection from his early solo catalogue including the classic Still Crazy After All These Years, before ending with the infectious South African rhythms of smash-hit album Graceland in the 80s and his biggest solo success, You Can Call Me Al.

A spokesman for the Public Hall said: “The Shades of Simon 5-piece band present their full two-hour theatre style show of the Paul Simon Story in tribute to Paul Simon as one of the best songwriters and performers of his generation.

“With an engaging narration, exceptional musicianship and authentic renditions of the best of his songs from Simon and Garfunkel through to Graceland, this is a show that appeals to all generations.”

The Paul Simon show is at the Witham Public Hall tomorrow, Friday, August 12, at 8pm, with doors opening at 7pm.

Tickets cost £16, plus a booking fee, and are available from withampublichall.co.uk, by phone on 0345 017 8717, or from the information office at Witham Town Hall.

The Public Hall will also be putting on more tribute shows throughout the rest of the year.

Crazy Little Thing Called Queen is playing on September 9.

It will feature Yvan Silva's incredible vocal power and showmanship and present a respectful homage to the incredible Freddie Mercury and Queen.

Following this, on September 17, there is a tribute to the Fab Four.

Beatlemania will be performing all 17 of the Beatles’ number one hits in a musical love letter to John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
