I would like to respond to the story on the front page of last week's Burnham Standard (Equestrian Question, February 6).
The riding people were not promised they would be allowed to ride on Riverside Park.
They were told that Maldon District Council would look into it. It was discussed several times by the district council but the answer was "no" and that should be the end of it.
The park is far too small and also riders going up and down Foundry Lane would be dangerous.
There are also always people walking dogs, families with kids having picnics, children flying kites and kiteboarders. It is definitely not feasible.
In addition to this, people make a fuss when dogs' mess is left behind in the park - you can't pick up the mess left behind by horses unless you follow behind them with a shovel and bin bag.
It does disintegrate but it's not at all nice if someone steps in it.
