A WOMEN-ONLY class has been set up for women to learn a new skill and gain confidence.

Gemma Heard, 36, from Heybridge Basin went to Thailand with her housemate, where she was introduced and fell in love with Muay Thai.

But when she returned home, she struggled to find a place that didn’t do sparring and fighting.

She decided to set up her own classes called Muay Fitness for women to train together.

The classes are suitable for all abilities and focus on fitness and wellbeing.

She now holds weekly classes at Heybridge Basin Village Hall on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and Boreham Village Scout Hall on Thursdays.

Weekly Saturday classes will soon be hosted in Maldon.

Gemma said: “I wanted to create a safe space for women to learn and grow.

“It’s all about building confidence and getting active, whilst having fun as well.

“We focus on fitness and well-being and practise mindfulness at the end of each class.

“I have seen people coming who are struggling with their mental health, who are now gaining confidence and it’s amazing to see.”
