SWIMMERS, cyclists and runners will be taking over the district this weekend.

Active Training World is staging the Tour of the Dengie and the Maldon Triathlon.

No roads will be closed during the events, but road users can expect delays in the area.

The Tour of the Dengie begins on Saturday from 9am, starting and finishing at Maldon's Promenade Park.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

Cyclists have the choice between 25km, 66km or 115km routes around the Dengie Peninsula.

The route will take cyclists south, through Mundon, Latchingdon, Mayland and Steeple towards Bradwell on Sea.

Cyclists will then follow a loop on the outside of Tillingham and Southminster taking them towards Burnham.

They then return through Althorne, Latchingdon and Mundon to Promenade Park.

The Maldon Triathlon is taking place alongside the Big East Triathlon on Sunday with a swim, cycle and run route from Promenade Park around the area.

There are multiple distances that participants can choose from which include the standard triathlon, sprint triathlon, standard aquabike or sprint aquabike.

Swimmers will start at 9am with a 750m or 1.5km lap in the River Blackwater, next to the park.

Cyclists can choose a 25km, 40km or 87km cycle route through Mundon and Latchingdon, down Burnham Road and along Foxhall Road to Asheldham.

Cyclists will then go through Steeple and Mayland to Latchingdon and back up to Maldon.

Runners can choose a five, ten or 15km course along the riverbank and round in a loop back to the park.

Mike Jubb, the head of events at Active Training World, said: “We are very excited to be returning to Maldon for this popular triathlon event based in Promenade Park.

“This year also sees the Big East Triathlon and the Tour of Dengie cycle sportif taking place over the same weekend.

“We can’t wait to welcome triathletes and cyclists of all standards to this beautiful town.

“We hope to see plenty of supporters coming down to cheer on the athletes taking on this challenge.”
