A PRIMARY school celebrates as they hold their first fete in three years.

Crowds of people attended St. Mary’s Church of England School in Burnham-on-Crouch for their summer fete in the sun.

A total of about £1600 was raised on the day to go towards the replacement play equipment in the school playground.

There was a wide variety of stalls and games for everyone to get involved in.

Pupils were allowed to throw wet sponges at their teachers in stocks as one of the attractions.

A photograph shows one pupil not holding back as they launch a sponge at their teacher.

There was also a penalty football challenge, face painting, archery and the total gaming bus.

Essex Police, the Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI and a Burnham fire crew brought vehicles to the fete for visitors to view.

A raffle was held, with prizes donated by Suffolk Yurts, Wibblers Brewery, the Jolly Fryer, Parlour Café and the Secret Butcher and balloons donated from The Original Factory Shop to decorate stalls.

There were also stalls set up selling bits and bobs and homemade goods such as a knitted clothing stall.

Headteacher Geraldine Denham-Hale said: “It was fantastic to see so many pupils and their families enjoying our school fete again after a three-year break.

“Our PTFA, the Paddlers, did an amazing job of organising such a successful event, that bought the whole school together.”

“This means that love is at the heart of all that we do and is lived out through our Christian values.”

Their ethos is present with all aspects of school life for pupils in the curriculum, worship and day to day activities at the school.
