A FAMOUS lifeboat which rescued hundreds of lives has become a permanent feature in a district basin.
The Sir William Arnold, also known as Lifeboat 52-02, which was moored at Heybridge Basin from 2020 to June 2021, has returned to Heybridge.
The famous Arun class lifeboat, which saved 223 lives in her three decades of lifesaving in the Channel Islands, will now be a permanent feature in the basin.
It was given a new lease of life during lockdown, after it was bought by lifeboat lover Colin Trowles, from Maldon.
The lifeboat opened to the public earlier this week after arriving following its two-night stop off in Burnham.
It is now open for guided tours for the community and is involved in fundraising for the RNLI Maldon branch.
