PATIENTS are being asked for their views on plans to move their GP surgery to a more modern building.

More than 6,000 patients in Southminster and the surrounding area can have their say on the proposals over the future of the William Fisher Medical Centre.

The surgery is starting a five week patient consultation exercise to seek views on the proposal.

The exercise will help shape a future planning application.

Lead GP partner Dr James Philips said: “Our existing surgery premises in Southminster High Street are no longer fit for purpose and need upgrading.

“Our highest priority is providing the best possible care for current and future patients and we need a flexible, modern building that’s fit for the future where we can continue to offer that care.

“Delivering care from our existing building is not sustainable in the long term due to the age and condition of the building, but we want to find out from local people how the proposal will impact them and if they believe the planned new surgery is suitable for their needs as well as to share more detail about our ideas.

“We believe the proposed location for our new surgery is well served by public transport and is accessible to our patients as the site is located on a bus route.

“The new site is just half a mile from our existing surgery.’’

“The engagement process will enable us to take on board the views of our patients and the local community as we seek renewed planning permission for the proposed new surgery after delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic led to the previous planning permission lapsing.”

The practice has invited patients to provide feedback on its proposals.

Two public drop-in events have been planned, on June 15 and June 22.

Each will take place at Southminster Memorial Hall between 1pm and 6.30pm.

The practice has also developed a website where more information is available.

You can visit the website at southminstergpbuild.com and leave comments on the proposal.
