A YOUNG boy came close to death after being misdiagnosed for a brain abscess which left him unresponsive.
Teddy Tweed’s mother Amie was told by staff at Broomfield Hospital that her toddler most likely had constipation when in fact he had an abscess on his brain.
He was vomiting and was overly sleepy, finding it hard to stay awake for six days which caused concern for Mrs Tweed.
She took him to Longfield Medical Centre and was told to go to A&E to get more checks and a blood test.
She was refused at the hospital because her son wasn’t displaying other symptoms at the time.
Just five days after the visit to A&E, Teddy was rushed to hospital where they found an abscess of about 100ml on his brain and he was immediately sent for surgery.
A spokesperson for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We have already spoken to Mrs Tweed and explained that this extremely rare case is currently under review, as is routine practice in all cases involving serious illnesses in children.
“We’ve invited her in to speak with us as part of this and said that we shall keep the family fully updated regarding the outcomes of that review.”
