A POPULAR family attraction in Maldon is set to be operated by a new firm after a deal was confirmed.

Places Leisure, which runs the Blackwater and Dengie Hundred leisure centres, will take over the operational management of Maldon's splash park this year on behalf of Maldon District Council.

The attraction is set to open in July and recruitment will soon begin for new staff to join the Maldon team.

The water feature, in Promenade Park, has been closed since August last year due to staff illnesses and mechanical issues on site.

Since then up to £150,000 in funding was approved for the attraction's revamp.

Maldon District Council leader Penny Channer said: “I am delighted that Places Leisure has seized the opportunity to manage the day-to-day running of the Splash Park on our behalf.

“I am looking forward to seeing visitors return to this extremely popular attraction once the refurbishment is complete.”

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

Jeremy Boreham, area manager for Places Leisure, said: “The Splash Park is a much-loved community facility, and we are excited to partner with Maldon District Council to support its delivery and offering.

“The fun and brightly coloured water features are fantastic for all to enjoy and a great way to build children’s water confidence, getting them swim ready whilst enjoying the great outdoors.”

Splash Park bookings will eventually be open on the leisure centre's website.
