THE Southend & District Junior Football League Cup finals will be back at Southend United’s Roots Hall ground for the first time in two years on Sunday.

The finals have not taken place for the past two seasons due to Covid 19.

And vice chair of the league Colin Henwood is looking forward to seeing the sides doing battle once again in what is always a memorable day of action.

“These are the first cup finals at Roots Hall for two years due to Covid and we’re really looking forward to it,” said Henwood.

“There will be presentations during the day as it is the league’s 50th anniversary as it was started in1972 by Roy Chaplin.

“There were eight clubs originally but in 1973 Dave Haycock took over as secretary and the league then expanded to what we have today.

“It’s one of the largest leagues in Essex and since 1988 we have held the cup finals at Roots Hall.

“It’s great for the junior teams to play in a stadium surroundings.”
