MALDON and Tiptree have announced Jerry Carter will take over as the club' s new chairman.

Carter takes over after resigning as a Braintree Town director and succeeds Ron Dangerfield, who left Park Drive last month.

Carter told the Maldon website: β€œAfter ten happy years at Braintree Town, it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down and I am excited to get started.

"I'm looking forward to working with Paul Abrahams in trying to guide the club to more success over the next few years.”

Carter had been a board member and general manager at Braintree and has had many years in local and non-league football.

"The reason for my resignation was initially to concentrate on my family and some other business interests," Carter told the Braintree website.

"It is with a heavy heart I will cease to be involved with the day today running of the club. "However, my family's business will continue to sponsor and support the chairman and the club.

"Since standing down, fate moves in mysterious ways and I have accepted an offer to be chairman of Maldon & Tiptree FC.

"I wish Lee and everyone at the club success and now look to my footballing future in Maldon."

Braintree chairman Lee Harding said: "Jerry has been a great friend and help to the Club and I'd like to thank him for his support over many years.

"We appreciate his continued support and wish him all the very best in his new role at Maldon & Tiptree."
