ROAD closures have been announced for a major cycling event coming to Maldon.

Residents may have seen lots of yellow road closure signs throughout the town this week.

These are in place for the upcoming elite women's cycling race RideLondon Classique, which starts in Maldon.

Riders will set off from Promenade Park at 11am for the race on May 27 before completing two laps of Abberton Reservoir, on the outskirts of Colchester.

They'll return past Tiptree before finishing with two circuits around Maldon.

Spectators should find a spot in Maldon High Street or Market Hill to watch the stage come to a “thrilling” finale, with riders passing by three times.

Access will be maintained at all times for emergency services.

Carers visiting clients may gain local access except for the top end of the High Street - the old Police Station to Market Hill.

From 4am to 8pm the length of road between the top of Market Hill and West Square will be closed.
