A COUNCIL is appealing for help from residents after public toilets in the district have been the target of vandalism.

Maldon District Council says public toilets in Tollesbury and Burnham have been hit by vandalism in recent weeks, which has caused "significant" damage.

It is urging members of the public to contact Essex Police with any information regarding the incidents.

A spokesman for the council said: "The public toilets in Tollesbury, Riverside Park and Doctor's Lane in Burnham have been the target of serious vandalism in recent weeks which has caused significant damage.

"The incidents have resulted in broken cubicle doors, destroyed nappy bins, bins set on fire, as well as soap and toilet roll dispensers being ripped off walls.

"This has caused over £300 worth of damage and has resulted in the toilet facilities in these locations being severely impacted.

"Repairs are taking place and additional security measures are being implemented as a result of this."

The incidents took place in the late afternoon/evening period between April 30 and May 2.
