A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after an incident in Maldon High Street.

Essex Police were called to an armed robbery at Mitchell’s Jewellers shortly after 10.15am on Wednesday, March 30.

Two men wearing dark clothing and dark motorcycle helmets pulled up outside the store before one man forced entry and stole three watches, valued in the region of £70,000.

The men were riding a small dark motorcycle which they left the scene on, travelling down Butt Lane.

There were no reports of any injuries.

At the time, Detective Inspector Dan Jeffries said: "This incident occurred very publicly in Maldon High Street and we know it will have caused a great deal of concern in the area.

"Specialist officers are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and we have seized a number of items from the scene for examination.

"I would like to thank the members of the public who have already come forward to speak to us and provide us with CCTV and images."

A 25-year-old man from Kent has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident.

He has been released on bail until May 16.
