A POPULAR pub in an Essex village has seen success since reopening after its renovation.

The Griffin was first built in the 1500s as a farm house called “Peppers”.

In 1744 it became a pub and its name was changed to The Griffin Inn.

In 1952 the historic building became a grade II listing, therefore preserving it.

The restaurant and bar came under new ownership in August and has undergone renovation since.

Its changes are not merely aesthetic as the revamped pub has new menu items, including a brand new breakfast menu which launched on Friday (April 1).

Audrey DeVere-Hunt, owner of The Griffin, commented: "We are keen to enhance everything about our historical venue.

"We use high-quality, fresh ingredients, offer great entertainment, and, now, we’re expanding our services to include breakfast, which we know is incredibly popular here in Essex."

"I hope that our delicious new breakfasts will bring even more food-lovers to our restaurant and oyster bar, highlighting the incredible talents of our team.

"You certainly won’t be leaving disappointed."

Bosses say The Griffin’s re-opening has proven to be a "roaring success" over recent months and its dedicated team now has equal faith in the success of its new breakfast menu.

Discussing the new menu, executive chef Mik Nelder said: "I am thrilled to be launching our new breakfast menu, as we’ve created a combination of dishes that I know our guests will thoroughly enjoy.

"There really is something for everyone at The Griffin; whether you’re a fan of something traditional, like a full English, or have more of a sweet tooth, our breakfasts won’t disappoint.
