A PRIMARY school in Maldon has been given a funding boost to help refresh its library.

Wentworth Primary School, based in Viking Road, plans to restock and rejuvenate its library for its pupils.

A renovation of the library has been quoted to cost £10,000.

Its project has now been awarded a £1,000 fundraising boost thanks to a regional house builder.

The school was chosen as part of Witham-based Persimmon Homes Essex's initiative to donate a total of £24,000 to groups and charities in the community each year.

Charlotte Firkins applied for the funding on behalf of the school's parents and teacher's association.

She said: "This fantastic news has made a very hard-working PTA committee very happy indeed, and we can’t thank everyone at Persimmon Homes in Essex enough.

"We plan to refresh and restock the library to make it a fun and accessible place for the children to learn.

"The renovation of the library alone has been quoted to cost £10,000 with additional funds needed for the new books.

"Thank you on behalf of all of our pupils."

Richard Hush, managing director for Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “We are pleased to donate £1,000 each to Wentworth Primary School PTA and Home Farm Primary School [in Colchester].

“Both schools have shown a clear commitment to fundraising and the ambition to transform their libraries into resources that the children can enjoy for many years to come.

“Our Community Champions initiative was set up to support groups, clubs and facilities in the areas that we are building, and I am sure that children living at our fully sold Sharpes Meadow development in Maldon [and current Castellum Grange development in Colchester] will benefit from the new library facilities.”
