A NEW playground has been opened in the Dengie after four years in the making.

The project for a new playground in Cold Norton was started back in 2018 by Sue Garnham, then a councillor on the village's parish council.

Mrs Garnham spearheaded fundraising campaigns with Karen Ricardson and Jeremy Richardson, a parish councillor, then took the project forward.

He consulted the village children as to what they wanted in their new playground which resulted in an up-to-date play area for a wide age range.

These youngsters turned out for the opening of the new playground behind the Village Hall in Cherry Blossom Lane.

Parish council chairman Brian Haydon opened the ceremony by thanking everyone who had been involved in the project, especially Mrs Garnham and Mrs Richardson and councillors Jeremy Richardson and Tim Dixon.

Maldon District Council leader Penny Channer cut the ribbon to declare the new playground open and the children attending tried out the new equipment for the first time.

Mrs Channer as well as Jane Fleming, councillor on the district council and Essex County Council, had both been supportive of the project.

They had nominated the parish council to receive funding from the county council, and backed applications for further grants, for the playground.
