NEW food hygiene ratings have been handed to six restaurants and takeaways in the Maldon district.

Restaurants, cafes, and takeaways have all been handed new food hygiene ratings by the Food Standards Agency.

What do the numbers mean?

0 - urgent improvement necessary

1 - major improvements necessary

2 - improvements necessary

3 - business generally satisfactory

4 - business good on assessment

5 - business seen as very good

Warren Golf Club in Woodham Walter was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on February 4, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

Cruise Essex, at Fambridge Yacht Haven, was also given the maximum score after assessment on February 25.

And Tollesbury Cuisine, a takeaway at 7d Monometer Business Park in Tollesbury, was also given a score of five on February 3.

A cafe and takeaways have been handed new four-out-of-five food hygiene ratings.

New Inn, a takeaway at New Wok Inn, Unit 8 in Bentalls Shopping Centre, was given the score after assessment on February 4, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

Southminster Fish Bar, a takeaway in Southminster High Street, was given the same score after assessment on January 21.

And Crystal Cafe in Maldon High Street was also given the four-out-of-five rating after assessment on January 20.
