POPSTAR and presenter Olly Murs says his involvement with Coggeshall Town FC helps him get away from the "madness" of being a celebrity.

In a wide-ranging interview, Olly, from Witham, sat down with Heart Bingo to answer questions from fans.

He spoke about his song Dance With Me Tonight going viral on Tiktok, working with Ed Sheeran and Demi Lovato and wanting to work with Calvin Harris and the other coaches on the Voice.

Asked about playing and being a director for Coggeshall Town FC, Olly said: "Mainly it’s my love of football. My uncle was also a manager there, and my uncle would often babysit me there as a kid growing up.

"I love the club and it gave me a chance to get away from the madness of the celebrity part of my life.

"It gave me a chance to be part of the real world again, being part of a proper football team.

"I really enjoy it – even now. We’re having a bad season - we’re doing OK but by our standards, it’s bad.

"It gives me the chance to do something I love other than music."

Olly said the last time he was starstruck was when he met Eric Cantona.

"It was at a Soccer Aid event a few years back," he said. "Cantona is an icon in Man United and an icon in my life, so meeting him was mind-blowing for me.

"It’s not exactly starstruck, but when Madonna did her Dance With Me TikTok Challenge video and Drew Barrymore did a TikTok video to the song too, I was shocked to see those two dancing to one of my songs."

Meanwhile, working with the Muppets has been the stand-out moment in his career.

"We sang Dance with Me Tonight," said Olly.

"Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that I would be singing one of my songs on stage with the Muppets and meeting Miss Piggy – it was amazing."

Asked about the future, he said: "I’m hoping to release new music soon. But I needed this time to focus on myself, my love life, my family.

"Hopefully you’ll be getting new music soon."
