CHRISTINGLE SERVICE

The Christingle Service was held on Sunday, January 13. This is a much loved service, and in the gloomy day of January the Christingles themselves are bright and cheerful.

The well known symbolism of the orange, the four cocktail sticks, laden with fruit and sweets, and the candle in the centre is an annual reminder that Jesus is the light of the world and the provider of the wonderful things that we all enjoy.

Lighting the candles and singing the Christingle hymn always produces a few moments of magic.

The usual envelopes and candle boxes were collected and the money raised, about £90, will go to the Children's Society, to help with their work with disadvantaged children.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH

Morning Worship Service this Sunday, January 27, at 10am.

DEERLANDS DAY NURSERY

Some of the children at Deerlands Day Nursery will be taking part in a project about recycling, reducing and re-using, starting on the week of January 21, for two weeks.

To help raise the children's awareness about the 3Rs (recycling, reducing and re-using), and to help them understand what it means to be environmentally friendly, they will be doing various activities over the two weeks.

One of the activities will be a recycling centre. We would like to invite members of the village to bring in any plastic recyclable items and we will recycle them for you. This will create an opportunity for the children to learn about different materials as they help sort the items that you bring.

Please can all items be clear of any debris, not sharp and in a tied bag.

We hope that you can participate, and if you have any other ideas on how we can become ,more sustainable as a nursery, please bring any suggestions written on a piece of paper and give this to a member of staff. Suggestions will be gratefully received.

For further details or information about Deerlands Nursery please ring Heidi on 01621 744041.

USED STAMPS

Thank you so much to everyone who saved their used stamps for me. I was quite overwhelmed with the support this year. You dropped them into my letterbox, left them at the Ferry Boat and I even had some sent to me through the post.

This is so encouraging and I will now take them into the Farleigh Hospice at Heybridge, who are very grateful and make good use of them.

Why not save them throughout the year? I will always collect from you.

Again, thank you.

QUIZ NIGHT

Have you booked your table for the Holy Trinity Church Quiz Night to be held in the village hall on Saturday, February 9, at 7.45pm?

Please ring Brenda Leat on 742589 or Trevor Jones on 742403 as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Tables of eight contestants cost £3.50 per head, which includes refreshments in the interval, but take along your own drinks and nibbles.
