LIFEBOAT volunteers in Burnham responded quickly to a red flare sighting last night (February 16).

Volunteers from Burnham RNLI were tasked at 7.36pm last night after a report of a red flare sighting in the vicinity of Fambridge moorings.

A spokesman said: "The Atlantic 85 was immediately launched and proceeded in difficult conditions to the area of the flare sighting."

A search of the area was made but nothing was found.

The volunteers were stood down and returned to station almost two hours after being tasked, at about 9.15pm.

The Atlantic 85 was made ready for the next service.
