COLCHESTER United chairman and owner Robbie Cowling was confronted by a group of angry U's fans in the aftermath of the club's dismal home defeat to Barrow.

Mr Cowling spoke to a small group of Colchester supporters as he exited the JobServe Community Stadium, following the 2-0 defeat - the U's fifth in a row, in all competitions.

The defeat has left the U's sitting three points above the League Two relegation zone.

The exchange of words came after a section of fans chanted for Mr Cowling to leave the club, amid increasing criticism following poor results and performances on the pitch.

A minute-long video clip of Mr Cowling addressing the small group of U's supporters after the Barrow game has already been viewed thousands of times, on social media.

The clip shows Mr Cowling asking the fans what would happen if he left the club now and asking them to find someone who would want to take over, should he choose to leave.

Mr Cowling then states to the fans that he does not want to sell the club.

When asked by one particular fan why, Mr Cowling replied: "I don't want to sell the club. It's my club, not your club."

A fan then states that two seasons ago, the club were in the play-offs to which Mr Cowling replies: "Was I not responsible for that then?".

A section of U's fans have been increasingly critical of Mr Cowling over recent months, as the club find themselves in a League Two relegation battle for the second successive season.

The Gazette has contacted the club for comment.
