AN appeal has been made following a rejection of holiday park plans.

The appeal has been made to the Secretary of State, against the Maldon District Council’s decision to refuse the plans earlier this year.

They council unanimously turned down planning permission for 70 lodges as part of a holiday park in and around Woodham Walter.

The Warren Estate plans included a 50-lodge holiday park, called Warren Lodges North, a secluded, luxury 20-lodge Wayside Retreat park, and alterations to the existing Bunsey clubhouse.

Three years ago, the Warren Estate started to work to develop a unique holiday venue for the Maldon area, an activity-focused, short-break destination of the highest quality.

This was based broadly on the Centre Parcs model, designed to encourage adults and children from all over the UK to visit.

With it, the aim would be that the park would deliver £7million investment into the local tourism economy.

However, councillors did not see the plans as something that is feasible for the area.

Woodham Walter Parish Council chairman James Rushton said the council and 182 other objectors did not want the plans to be approved, calling them “unsustainable”.

District councillors Jane Fleming, Richard Siddall, and Karl Jarvis all expressed concerns about the size and also environmental impact of the plans.

Now, John Moran, who applied for the park, has now taken it to an appeal following the appeal being refused.

A planning inspector will determine the appeal on the basis of a hearing, of which a date and location is yet to be decided.
