A CHARITY football match is set to remember a railway worker who sadly died from cancer.

Conor Morley, from Colchester, died at just 27 years old last year after battling cancer.

Conor was a devoted family man who loved his wife, mum, dad, sister and grandparents.

His friend Dave Seaman describes the young railway worker as a fantastic person with a wicked sense of humour.

He said: "He was always laughing and joking even during his last days when he was very unwell with cancer.

"We lost him at just 27 years old and it was such a tragedy. He absolutely loved his job at Chelmsford Station and was extremely popular with colleagues and passengers."

Dave added: "We were unable to have a huge send off for Conor last year due to Covid but dozens of his colleagues lined the route to the crematorium on the day."

Dave and many of Conor's colleagues wanted to pay tribute to him as well as raise money for St Helena Hospice, who gave Conor and his family support during his illness.

They've set up a charity football match taking place on Sunday (December 5) to raise money for St Helena Hospice and pay tribute to Conor.

"A great number of his colleagues have assisted me in organising this match and it really has been a fantastic team effort," Dave said.

The match kicks off at 2.30pm on Sunday at Leisure World in Tiptree.

Teams from Chelmsford and Colchester railway stations will battle for the first ever Conor Morley cup.

A whopping £1,500 has been raised so far and Dave expects more will be raised.

Organisers are also expecting at least 100 supporters to come to the match.
