THE number of coronavirus cases in the Maldon district increased by 73 in the last 24 hours, official figures show.

A total of 8,587 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in the district when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated yesterday (December 2), up from 8,514 on Wednesday.

The rate of infection now stands at 13,130 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 15,489.

There were no new coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest 24-hour period in Maldon, where the death toll since the start of the pandemic is 154.

It means there have been no deaths in the past week.

The latest figures show 49,633 people in the Maldon area had received both jabs by December 1 – 82 per cent of those aged 12 and over.

Across England, 81 per cent of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.
