CONTROVERSIAL plans to build more new homes in a village have been given the final green light, despite objections.

Maldon District Council has given the go-ahead for 12 more homes west of Fambridge Road, in North Fambridge.

Some residents had objected to the proposals.

One said the village was being "decimated" by the number of houses that have been built there in recent years.

There were also concerns about the extra traffic that would created and the additional pressure on local services.

One objector said: "The vast majority of travel into and out of the village is by car as there are no shops, no schools, no doctor surgeries, few employment opportunities and no other facilities.

"Contrary to what is said in the planning application, there is only one bus a week to South Woodham Ferrers and one a fortnight to Chelmsford and that is the totality of the public bus service.

"Whilst there is a rail service to London this is very expensive and most people work in Chelmsford or Maldon or elsewhere in the district and travel there by car. The vast majority of children are taken by car or school bus to school.

"The development will put further stress on the local services and there is no spare capacity in schools, doctor surgeries and other services in the area."

Seventy-five homes which already had planning permission are being built at the site.

The additional homes were given the go-ahead in the summer. Legal agreements have now been signed by Maldon District Council and the developer.
