A STRONG objection has been sent to a bid to build almost 100 new homes in a "small village".

Tolleshunt Knights Parish Council has sent a strong objection to the proposal to build up to 97 homes on two sites in Top Road.

This comes after the parish council held a public meeting at the village hall in Top Road which was attended by more than 230 residents.

In a lengthy response to the plans, it lists the reasons for objecting.

These include sustainability, highways infrastructure, the effect on the appearance and character of the village, the Monastery of St John The Baptist, and flooding issues.

It says the nearest centre providing "essential services and facilities" is Tiptree, which it says is "undergoing a significant level of development" and medical facilities are "already inadequate to meet its current needs".

The parish council's full response can be found at tkpc.org.uk.

Maldon District Council will have the final say on the plans.
