COLCHESTER United youngsters Sam Cornish and Ted Collins have joined Pitching In Isthmian League division north side Maldon and Tiptree on loan.

The U's academy pair will head out to the Jammers - managed by former U's favourite and promotion winner Wayne Brown - to gain first team experience.

U's Director of Football, Tony Humes told the club's website: "Both Sam and Ted have been around the first team squad, but have struggled to break through.

"They will gain experience and confidence from playing more competitive football at Maldon and Tiptree and we look forward to welcoming them back later this season."

Cornish signed his first professional contract at the start of the 2021/22 season and has made a number of appearances for the club's under-23 side, under Richard Hall and Dave Huzzey.

The central midfielder, who has joined the Jammers on a month's loan, featured in the U's final matchday 18 of the season on the road at Tranmere Rovers.

The dynamic midfielder, who originally made his Maldon debut in September 2019, helped Maldon reach the FA Cup first round and the FA Trophy third round in his previous loan spell.

Goalkeeper Collins has joined Maldon on a work experience loan, with the young 'keeper appearing a number of times for the under-23 squad both this season and last.

The 18-year-old previously featured for the Jammers during pre-season in the current campaign.
