ANOTHER Covid victim has died in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the Maldon area to 144.

The number of coronavirus cases in the district increased by 25 in the last 24 hours, official figures show.

A total of 5,961 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Maldon when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard this afternoon (September 24), up from 5,936 on Thursday.

The rate of infection in Maldon now stands at 9,115 cases per 100,000 people, much lower than the England average of 11,461.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 35,620 over the period, to 7,601,487.

It means there has been one death in the past week, which is an increase on none the previous week.

There have been 14,000 deaths recorded across the East of England.

The latest figures show 48,117 people in Maldon had received both jabs by September 23 – 83 per cent of those aged 16 and over.
