GOOD Samartians handed a youth football club in Maldon a donation for its appeal to buy life-saving equipment.

Maldon Saints Youth Football Club launched an appeal in June to make a defibrillator more available to the community.

Having seen the club’s appeal, Freemasons at the Mitre Lodge decided to donate £500 towards the cost.

However the group realised this wasn’t enough to cover everything needed.

The secretary of Mitre Lodge asked the fellow Maldon Masonic Lodges if they would join them to support the appeal.

All eight other lodges teamed up to join in the fundraising.

Their help increased the total to £1,140.

This allows Maldon Saints to buy the portable defibrillator and the training for members who will operate it.

The donation was handed earlier this month by Dave Harrop, the master of Mitre Lodge, and chairman of Maldon Masonic Hall, Paul Beech, on behalf of all Maldon lodges.
