THE number of coronavirus cases in the Maldon increased by 29 in the last 24 hours, official figures show.

A total of 5,918 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Maldon when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on Wednesday (September 22) – up from 5,889 on Tuesday.

The rate of infection in Maldon is 9,049 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 11,362.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 33,560 over the period, to 7,530,103.

There were no new coronavirus deaths recorded in the past week in Maldon where the total number of fatalities is 143.

There have been 13,979 deaths recorded across the East of England.

The figures also show that more than four in five people in Maldon have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 48,035 people had received both jabs by September 21 – 83 per cent of those aged 16 and over.
