BURNHAM Hillside Bowls Club held a special remembrance gathering at their club in honour of all their bowling colleagues who had passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

It started with a two-hour bowls game attended by 36 Burnham bowlers watched by other club and family members of the lost ones.

Burnham Hillside club president John Wilson gave his remembrance speech for the lost colleagues - Ruby Fisher, Fred Wallace, Derek Herrington, Margarate Filtness, John Collins, Bert Savage, Don Rodgers, Linda Carter and Pauline Deed.

Over that same weekend, Bunrham Hillside hosted Maldon BC in a friendly, over three mixed triples.

This proved to be a very close game all the way through and after 18 ends Maldon had won two triples and Burnham Hillside one.

But when the shots were added up it turned out to be a 42-42 draw.

Burnham Hillside then visited Southminster for away game over four mixed triples.

This was another tight game but this time they just lost overall 70-63.

Burnham Hillside played in the semi-final of the annual Writtle Hospital Cup Charity Competition on the evening of Thursday, August 26.

It was an away game against Falcon BC, over three games of fours which turned out to be a fight to the wire.

Burnham won overall by just one shot.

They now go on to play in the final at Writtle Bowls Club against Great Baddow on Saturday, September 11, starting at 2.30pm.
