The eagerly-awaited Saltmarsh Ultra challenge has been postponed until next year due to a "range of challenges" the team have faced.

The 2-day marathon, which was set to take place on October 2, covers the Maldon district's 75 mile coastline.

With a start point at South Woodham Ferrers and a finish at the hamlet of Salcott-cum-Virley, runners tackle an almost entirely off-road route.

Organisers revealed yesterday they have decided to postpone the event until 2022.

A spokesman said in a social media post this decision was made due to a "range of challenges" the team is facing.

They added the team is under "immense pressure" and do not have the "resources or time to do the event justice".

Refunds will be issued to competitors over the coming weeks.

Any competitors with questions or issues are urged to contact Events@maldon.gov.uk.
