A CREW of rowers finished a circumnavigation of Britain on Friday - 41 days after they set off.

Roxy, as part of the Lionheart Great British Row, finished its voyage back where it started at the Royal Burnham Yacht Club, Burnham-on-Crouch.

The Rannoch Adventure team was there to meet the crew as they arrived on Friday, July 30.

The team said they appeared tired but full of smiles as their adventure came to an end.

There were 31 rowers who took part in the voyage, with five who completed the whole journey, and 26 who joined Roxy for part of it.

They rowed in a shift pattern, 3 hours on and 3 hours off, with off time used for sleeping and eating.

The rowers enjoyed mini heatwaves on legs 1 and 5, but headwinds were experienced on legs 2 and 6,

Scotland was seen at it's best on legs 3 and 4.

The epic row around the coast of Great Britain took place over 6 weeks.

Sightseeing highlights included wildlife such as minke whales, dolphins, and puffins.

Also, landmarks such as castles, lighthouses, cliffs, beaches, rocky outcrops, wind farms and much more.

A total of 1650 nautical miles were rowed, and 400 miles towed due to stubborn north winds at times.

The crew have special memories of the towns they visited.

A spokesman for Rannoch Adventure said: "This journey will mostly be remembered for the camaraderie, laughter and friendship that comes from experiencing such a unique adventure.

"A group of individuals who co-existed in such a confined space onboard, yet have been surrounded by the aura and beauty provided by our Great British coastline.

"Its been a blast - thank you to each and every one of the 31 Roxy crew members who made this happen."

Roxy left on June 13 in almost perfect rowing conditions.

The 12-person crew were sent off by well-wishers who waved goodbye.
