MALDON Bowling Club is set to stage this year’s Essex Men’s Pairs final.

The match will take place on Monday, August 16, from 6pm.

It will feature pairs from Romford Bowling Club and Essex County Bowling club.

Representing Romford will be Nigel Smith and Steve Mitchinson.

Chris Muir and Ed Morris will bowl for Essex.

Steve Mitchinson and Ed Morris are both current England internationals and have also both won the national championship.

The champs are following in the footsteps of Maldon’s own Andy Squire.

In addition, Ed is in the Commonwealth Games Elite Squad for next year’s Commonwealth Games.

The games are being held at Royal Leamington Spa.

All four players have won numerous county titles.

A spokesman for Maldon Bowling Club said: “This is a great opportunity to see some of the country’s best bowlers in action.

“All spectators are welcome to come along, members or non-members, to see some top quality bowling.”

The town’s bowling club was reopened in April with John Whittingdale attending to try his hand at the game.

The bowls club has been around since 1908.

It welcomes people of all abilities to join.

Bowlers can play in local leagues, regular friendly fixtures or purely for recreation.

Training is also available for budding players.

Spectators can find the club in Promenade Park, on Blythe Way.
