THE Maldon town mayor raised funds for two chosen charities in first fundraising event.

Maldon town mayor councillor David Ogg raised money for the two charities he has selected for support during his year of office in a charity golf day.

A total of 24 people attended the event at Maldon Golf Club in Langford which raised £545 to be shared between The Sea-Change Sailing Trust and Churches Together in Maldon.

The event was organised by David Carr, owner of Carr Associates Insurance Brokers, a Maldon-based company. The company also provided trophies for the event.

Cllr Ogg said the event was a "big learning curve" as town mayor and is looking forward to more fundraising events in the future, including a casino night.

The Sea-Change Sailing Trust is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Training and Sailability Foundation centre, and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award approved activity centre which provides residential opportunities to disabled, disadvantaged and socially excluded young people.

Churches Together in Maldon became a lifeline in the district during the pandemic with their voluntary coronavirus community response helping those who were told to stay at home with activities including distributing food parcels and hot meals, prescription collections, safe and well checks, a helpline, and more.
