An RAF veteran who wrote his first book at 83 has published the final book in the series.

Writer Vernon Yarker, 85, of Mill Road, Maldon, has written the third and final book in his sci-fi series, Dark Matter Transit.

The latest book is called Dark Matter Transit 3 (The Terrabot Wars).

Vernon wrote the first book at the age of 83.

He was born in South Woodham Ferrers and joined the RAF at just 15, then going on to serve 24 years with them.

He said: “Dark Matter Transit 3 is the culmination of an action that has its roots in the first volume, when the Terrabot had planned to attack the Earth in order to draw the forces of the Ongle system of planets into an unequal combat using Earth as the bait. Terrabot were defeated in the Hands of God incident.

“In book three things come to a head with war raging between fleets of more than a million ships, on either side, fighting across the galaxies . It is a war which ends in an unexpected way.

“If you look at the associated website, you will see a charming review by an 11-year-old girl living in the Maldon district. I hadn’t anticipated that the first book would be read by someone so young, however, it confirmed to me the respective wisdom, that a book can be read, or seen by any age group.”
