Scores on the doors reveals the latest food hygiene ratings for restaurants and takeaways and these are some of the best and worst ratings.

These scores are from the latest inspections by Maldon and Colchester councils' hygiene teams, correct as of June 7, 2021.

All the takeaways and restaurants were rated between March and June this year. 

What do the numbers mean?

0 - urgent improvement necessary

1 - major improvements necessary

2 - improvements necessary

3 - business generally satisfactory

4 - business good on assessment

5 - business seen as very good

Each restaurant is also judged on three categories ‘food hygiene and safety’, ‘structural compliance’ and ‘confidence in management’.

Each section is awarded a mark from ‘very good’ to ‘very bad’ and for ‘confidence in management’ from ‘high’ to ‘no confidence’.

House Of Delight, High Street, Maldon

The restaurant and takeaway was rated a 5 and scored good across the board for all three categories. 

Maldon Tandoori, High Street, Maldon

The restaurant and takeaway was rated a 5 and scored good across the board for all three categories. 

Zara Indian Cuisine, Chelmsford Road, Woodham Mortimer

The takeaway was rated as a four and given good ratings for food hygiene and confidence in management. It was awarded a fair rating for structural compliance. 

Polash Restaurant, Station Road, Burnham

The takeaway was given a five star rating. Food hygiene and structural compliance got awarded very high and confidence in management was awarded high. 

Sergeant Peppers Restaurant, High Street Burnham

The restaurant and takeaway was rated 5 and awarded good across the board for all three categories. 

Curry Cottage, High Street, Burnham

The takeaway was given a three rating. Inspectors said food hygiene and structural compliance was fair and they had some confidence on the management.
