In 2010, only two weeks after retiring from my position working at Chelmsford Police Station, I suffered a heart attack.

My world literally fell apart, I had made plans and suddenly I could not carry out these plans.

Through the NHS I attended a course in St Peter’s Hall (chapel) in Maldon, from here I went on to join Tickers, which is a cardio exercise group for heart patients.

The instructor is very knowledgeable in all aspects of health and in particular heart problems.

This group gave me the confidence to carry on with life, without it I would have been lost. The group has been going since 2004. It has lottery funded gym equipment all situated in the hall.

So I and all the members were very distressed to hear this community facility has been withdrawn. The reason being that they are using this building for storage.

Without this group all the heart patients that attended this session have nothing. Surely this cannot be right. Why not use the resources we have to keep fit and healthy?
