The percentage of people in the Maldon district who have had their first Covid jab has hit a landmark figure.

NHS data shows 38,155 people had received a vaccine jab by April 18.

This equals 70 per cent of those aged 16 and over, according to the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

Of those vaccinated, 30,690 were aged 50 and over – 97 per cent of the age group.

It means 7,465 people aged between 16 to 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

Areas with the highest coverage:

• Great Totham, Wickham Bishops & Woodham, 76.3 per cent

• Burnham-on-Crouch, 72.6 per cent

• Maldon South, 72.1 per cent

Areas with the lowest coverage:

• Southminster, Bradwell & Dengie Peninsula, 67 per cent

• Maldon North, 67 per cent

• Heybridge, 67.7 per cent
