A NEW group formed to tackle the road issues in a village has held its first meeting.

The Little Totham Traffic Community Working Group was held virtually for parish councillors and residents.

The two main areas of concern were the excessive volume of HGVs and the number of speeding vehicles in the village.

However, due to Covid restrictions, the Community Speed Watch Team is unable to hold sessions to collect more data.

According to CrashMap, a website which gathers data on road accidents, there have been five accidents in Brick House Road, The Street, and Witham Road in the past five years.

A spokesman said: “These problems are further compounded by the fact that there are several areas of the village, including The Street, which have minimal or no footpaths and thus pedestrians are at extreme risk when encountering either of these two traffic problems.

“Both traffic issues and the lack of footpaths were discussed in depth throughout the meeting, with residents recalling recent near misses witnessed by them.”

The situation will be monitored for the next few months by both the group and the parish council.

It is hoped the parish council will cover this as a major priority before a serious accident occurs.

The group is set to meet online again in April to discuss progress and consider the requirements for the next phases of the action plan.
