THE infection rate across the Maldon District is steadily dropping, according to the latest figures.

Data from Public Health England shows that the infection rate across the district stands at 804 per 100,000 people.

It also shows that 522 cases have been recorded in the seven days leading up to January 9.

The rates reached above 1,000 only a week ago.

The area with the highest infection rate is Heybridge with 1,158.2.

The lowest infection rate is in Mayland, Althorne & Cold Norton at 656.2.

Outside Maldon District, in South Woodham Ferrers, the infection rate now stands below 800 per 100,000 people in both North and South areas.
