STAFF and customers at an eco-friendly shop have been working together to show their appreciation for workers on the coronavirus frontline.

Silo, a zero-waste refill shop in Bright’s Path, Maldon, has been making regular deliveries of essential food to people shielding and isolating across Maldon, Heybridge, Danbury and the Dengie.

Now the shop is offering customers the opportunity to contribute towards hampers of snacks and treats for local hospitals and paramedics.

Owner Lucie Walker-Hutt said a customer came up with the idea.

She said: “The idea came from a wonderful customer who wanted to give a gift to a friend working in intensive care.

“We thought that it would be lovely to offer up this idea to everyone.

“We welcome suggestions of other workplaces for frontline heroes.”

Customers can select an amount that they wish to donate through the website.

Staff then pack the hampers, and add an extra 10 per cent from the shop before arranging the delivery.

Lucie said: “We have stayed open throughout the pandemic by adapting the shop, creating a website for online shopping, and we have been making deliveries since the first lockdown in March.

“We’re a well-oiled machine and raring to go with this new initiative.”
