The leader of Maldon District Council said it is "disappointing" that Essex has been put into tier two.

Councillor Wendy Stamp said she hopes that we will move into the medium tier "as soon as possible".

She said: "“Whilst it is disappointing that we have been put back into the ‘High’ Tier, it is clear that cases are still of concern in a number of areas in Essex.

“The new High Tier rules are more stringent than last time, but I hope that everyone will continue to follow the rules and hopefully, we will see Essex move into the Medium Tier as soon as possible.

“It is of course good news that our High Street businesses can reopen in time for Christmas sales, and I hope that we can all do our upmost to shop locally and support our local businesses.

“However, it is extremely important that we all remember to wash our hands, wear a mask and keep our distance whilst we are out and about so we can all enjoy our shopping safely.”
