Two people were rescued by members of the public after their boat capsized.

South Woodham Coastguard Rescue Team were called to help rescue two people the water near South Woodham Ferrers Yacht Club after their boat capsized.

They were tasked as part of the response team which included RNLI Burnham-on-Crouch, the East of England Ambulance Service and South Woodham Ferrers Community First Responders.

On arrival both casualties had been recovered from the river by passers by, who used a life ring from the Marsh Farm carpark.

The pair ended up in the water after their boat capsized.

Fortunately they were both wearing lifejackets.

They were taken to the Yacht Club to shelter from the cold as both casualties were suffering from the effects of the cold water exposure.

Paramedics transported both of them to the hospital for further treatments.

The Coastguard Rescue Team said: "A big thank you to the members of the public for their quick thinking and swift actions to raise help by calling 999 and asking for Coastguard, using the public life ring and not entering the water themselves."
