Parents have praised how a school has dealt with coronavirus restrictions.

Plume Academy headteacher Carl Wakefield has been praised by parents who expressed their support for how he has managed restrictions at the school.

One parent said other schools could 'take a leaf out of his book'.

Mr Wakefield recently responded to Essex County Council's call for students and adults to wear face masks when leaving classrooms and meeting in communal areas.

He said the school brought in the compulsory wearing of face masks over five weeks ago when restrictions were first introduced.

He said: "From day one of this, students and staff alike have taken to the wearing of face coverings or visors on the corridors and moving between lessons exceptionally well, not that I ever doubted this would be the case.

"I remain immensely proud as to how our students and staff have adapted to not only the wearing of face coverings but to all COVID-19 protocols we have had to put in place.

"The support of our parents and carers has remained immense throughout the pandemic period too and without this, quite simply, we would not have successfully got to the point at which we’re at as we near the end of the first half term of autumn."

Parents said they have been 'lucky to have him' through the coronavirus pandemic.

One parent said: "We are lucky to have him as a headteacher, I have a child already in the school and I recently went for the school tour as I have another joining next year.

"We were very impressed with how the school is dealing with the covid situation."

Another said: "Many schools could take a leaf out of the tremendous and passionate work that Carl Wakefield does, a man who truly cares about staff and pupil wellbeing.

"His commitment is absolutely immense"

Another said: "We are so lucky to have Mr Wakefield, he genuinely has all the students best interests and safety at heart.

"Throughout the whole of lockdown I don't think a school could have done any more."
