Maldon's 'fiver fest' kicked off this weekend with a bang.

Businesses hailed it a success after a sell out weekend on Maldon High Street.

Over 25 indepedent businesses in Maldon are taking part in the festival to help highlight the importance of the high street.

Each retailer will put on special £5 offers for two weeks.

Organisers Allison Gray and Michael Bloomfield, who run Around Maldon tourist information centre wanted to support the high street after a difficult year during the coronavirus pandemic.

Louise Harrison from Just the Thing said: "It was really lovely to see the High St alive with activity on Saturday.

"I spoke with customers that hadn’t been to Maldon for a while but commented on what a diverse and pleasant High St we have.

" As a shop owner I actually got quite emotional by all the support from my fellow business owners.

"Everyone is supporting each other across social media and with Fiver Fest purchases. We can all see the benefit of being one united High St and want to provide the best offering to customers and visitors"

Charlie Goss from Mrs Salisbury's said: "We were overwhelmed by the support from the public, we sold out on the first day!

"So great to see our unique High Street busy and buzzing. It just shows how beneficial it is for local businesses to work together. Special thanks to Allison & Mike for putting it together."

The festival continues until October 24.
