Maldon's Christmas lights switch on will go ahead, despite coronavirus restrictions.
At a meeting of the Maldon Town Council yesterday (September 15) councillors were told the lights would be switched on but it would be 'low key'.
The lights will be switched on on November 26 at 5pm by Mayor Abdul Hafiz from the balcony of Moot Hall.
Shops will follow with an evening of late night shopping, closing at 8pm.
However there will not be any stalls of street entertainment and strict measures will be in place to ensure social distancing.
Speaking at the meeting Councillor Michael Pearlman said that businesses are "100 per cent behind the plan."
He added: "The event will be low key and hopefully will go ahead providing there is not another lockdown.
"There will be no stalls or road closure this year due to the covid-19 situation, but hopefully will get the support of the residents and shops to make the best of the situation and enjoy the evening."
